People have been asking us to show some films again, since we discontinued our Sunday evening movie night, and this is an open slot we found in the cafe's schedule. Come for any or all of the evening, starting at 6:30pm and running until about 9:30pm.

There is no charge for viewing the films, but Cafe Libertalia IS a coffee house, and we'd appreciate it if you'd make a purchase from the counter.

On a personal Note about my last Cruise;
Mischa got us a GR8 deal last time too ! I & about a dozen Members went on this same cruise last year. We all had an absolute Blast aboard ship. The meals you would not believe, really fantastic, some of the best "eats" I've ever had anywhere.

The service is world class too, if you even think of something you want or need, when you turn there is already a crew member standing there to handle it for you. (Hey, they only hire folks with ESP or what?)

I'm not usually a gambler but decided to try Roulette (The Casino is open till 4am) starting the 3rd night out. I walked away with over $600 the first night, over $700 the second night and over $800 the third night, I could hardly believe what beginners luck I had. I played from about midnight til 4am each of the 3 nights.

This time I'll be at the wheel the 1st night out in hopes my beginners luck will hold (if it doesn't I'll head for the Disco pronto !). That was over $2,100 I won which means they (Carnival) paid me about $1,500 bucks to take their cruise and eat them out of house & home (ship & dinghy/launch).

Even without my winnings I still would have considered it a GR8 deal ! Playing Roulette did cut into my dance time (my Fav) which I spent the other 2 nights doing, also till 4am in the Disco bar which plays more Rock-N-Roll music than it does disco.

I hope some of of my Cruising partners will make this trip again and I'm sure they will as soon as they sea this post. Don't miss out on a GR8 time, call Mischa ASAP to get yourself booked, you'll be glad you did, I'll guarantee it !! James.

If you haven't discovered Cruising yet, You will it and are sure to be hooked from your first time on !

DON'T DELAY ! DO IT TODAY !!!

And I'll See You ! On The High Seas !!! JAMES

NOTE; I've set the RSVP deadline as May 21st because I forgot to ask Mischa what I should set it as ? and I had to choose something just to be able to post this. I'll change it when I talk to her next.

I do know the deadline to make the $25 deposit is "Like right now !" unless you want to end up paying a lot more , she can only hold cabins at this price for a very short time and if not booked the cruise line takes them back then reissues them at a higher price and even then it's "IF" they have any left...
SO GET ON IT FOLKS ! Call her NOW if you want to go.. James

Cost: $0.01

Our film this week doesn't fit into our usual rotation of genres, but we're looking forward to seeing it and hope you'll join us. We're sorry to say that this screening will be the last in our Sunday evening series. Starting July 12th, Sunday evenings will be Open Mic Nights hosted by Java Joe's. We're tentatively planning to pick up the film series on Sunday afternoons, but will probably wait until Autumn, when people may be more inclined to spend some time indoors.

Netflix.com synopsis of Revolutionary Road: Based on the novel by Richard Yates and set in the mid-1950s, this story helmed by Sam Mendes follows the Wheelers (Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslett, in a Golden Globe-winning role), a young couple in suburban Connecticut who tries desperately to confront the problems in their relationship while raising two children. Despite their best intentions, the couple's intense arguments send them into a downward spiral. Michael Shannon co-stars in an Oscar-nominated role.

Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times, 5 stars...
'This film is so good it is devastating. A lot of people believe their parents didn't understand them. What if they didn't understand themselves? ... DiCaprio and Winslet... are so good, they stop being actors and become the people I grew up around.'

Netflix.com synopsis: In Aaron Woolf's thought-provoking documentary, friends Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis move back to America's Corn Belt to plant an acre of the nation's most-grown and most-subsidized grain in an attempt to follow their crop into the U.S. food supply. What they discover about genetically modified seeds, powerful herbicides and the realities of modern farming calls into question government subsidies, our fast-food lifestyle and the quality of our food.

Our foreign film this month is a bit unusual in that it was filmed and takes in place in several countries, and the dialogue is in several languages. It's also a moving and wonderful film, IMHO.

Here's the Netflix.com synopsis: A long-lost "red violin" crafted in the Italian Renaissance shows up at an auction, enthralling a curious connoisseur (Samuel L. Jackson). In flashbacks through three centuries, the instrument reveals its mysterious history -- and the lives of its previous owners. Filmed on three continents and in five languages, this Canadian-Italian production won a Best Original Score Oscar and a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

The first week of the month is our "classic" week, and we've chosen a film that's been requested by a few of our regular movie-goers. Here's the Netflix.com synopsis:

After losing the family plantation to creditors, aging Southern belle Blanche DuBois (Vivien Leigh) travels to New Orleans seeking solace in her sister, Stella (Kim Hunter). Instead, she goes toe-to-toe with Stella's brute of a husband, Stanley (Marlon Brando). Leigh, Hunter and Karl Malden all took home Oscars for their work in this sizzling adaptation of Tennessee Williams's classic rumination on carnal attraction and faded gentility. Roger Ebert gave the film 4 starts and said: 'Despite the overwhelming power of Brando's performance, Streetcar is one of the great ensemble pieces in the movies.' Interesting that Brando DIDN'T get the oscar for that performance, while his three co-stars did. The film won tons of awards and nominations.
