Details
UPDATE (5/12): At this point, there is only one other definite Yes besides myself (Lori may not be able to attend tonight). I'm still going to attend the event myself at 7pm but I'm cancelling dinner (and the $10 event fee since there may not be much socializing opportunity).
"Sex and Bacon: Why I Love Things That Are Very, Very Bad For Me" (Seal Press / May 2008) by Sarah Katherine Lewis (a Seattle local) is our kind of book! We'll meet at a nearby restaurant (to be announced) to socialize first then head to the reading at Third Place Books in Ravenna (6504 20th Ave. NE) at 7pm.
From the Seal Press website:
In Sex and Bacon, Sarah Katherine Lewis is a seductress whose observations about the interplay between food and sex are unusually delightful, sometimes raunchy, and always absorbing. Sex and Bacon is a unique type of lovefest, and Lewis is not your run-of-the-mill food writer.
A lusty eater who's spent the better part of her adult life as a sex worker, Lewis is as reckless as she is adventurous. She writes of eating whale and bone marrow as challenges she was incapable of resisting. With chapters that hone in on the categorically simple?fat, sugar, meat?Lewis infuses even the most quotidian meals and food memories with sensual observations and decadence worthy of savoring. Sex and Bacon is exuberant?a celebration that honors the rawness and base needs that are central to our experiences of both food and sex.
By attending our events, you agree that you will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Seattle Sexplorations LLC and it's Affiliates from and against any and all claims arising from or that could arise from your participation in our events.

""Book Reading" sounds dull, but not this one! The author had a gift of words and imagery and made connections between sex and food I couldn't have imagined."
