This Friday is going to be a party.. latin style. We'll start the night at La Sangria bar for a couple of warm up drinks before heading next door to the Laundry to dance the night away to latin beats.

The Laundry gets packed out most nights. With great music, a modern sound system and a friendly vibe, their latin Friday nights have become famous.

It's been a while since our last Meetup so this time I thought we'd do something a bit special to hopefully make up for my slackness. :) There will be two venues.. a catch up and chat spot then we'll move to the newest bar in town to dance the night away.

7:30pm - The first venue called Golden Monkey took the honour of Bar of the Year 2007 and is the perfect place for meeting everyone. This bar would be described as a dimly lit cavern filled with Chinese wooden screens, large red hanging shades and rice-paper lanterns, candles burning on low tables, dark wood furniture and leather couches. There is a 1960s Hong Kong glamour to the place, with nooks and crannies, shadows and darkened corners. Sophisticated and decadent with an extensive cocktail menu plus 16 different tequilas!

9:00pm - The second venue... The Night Cat City will open in a week and brings live music featuring some of Melbourne's funkiest dance bands to Flinders Lane. The venue has been stylishly revived with a new look and a state of the art sound system in conjunction with a 24hr bar licence on Friday and Saturday nights. ensuring a pleasurable live music experience that it's sister bar, The Night Cat Fitzroy has enjoyed for over 15 years.

This venue has been suggested a few times and thanks for your feedback. I went to check it out last week and this place is amazing...

The first thing you'll notice after passing through the double vaulted doors are the over-the-top chandeliers hanging from the high ceiling like giant spinning tops. Also spattered throughout the curved main bar are various gold statues adding to the opulence. The venue spreads out across three flours, comprising of eight different bars, including a wine and cheese room, and a cognac, champagne, cocktail and caviar room. The musical sounds of jazz and swing lay the foundations for this über cool space.

I've reserved the red cushioned booth on the mezzanine floor near the gold bar, with a Martini master on hand, this bar allows you to delve deeper into the world of the cocktails, offering bespoke creations, catering to your personal tastes.

Canapés are also available to order although they recommend to book food in advance. I am happy to send a list of food options and pricing should you be interested.

**A word of note is that there is a strict dress code of no denim or sneakers, with guys turned down for not wearing a collared shirt. It’s better to play it safe and dress to the nines here.

This bar is relatively new to the Melbourne nightlife scene and features bars on two levels. The first level is decked out in reflective wallpaper, a large stone open fireplace, low comfy sofas and a DJ spinning tunes. The second level is the rooftop bar described as a Bali-style oasis complete with hanging wicker chairs, palms, timber decking, candles and heated undercover areas. Enjoy Melbourne's sky line from a rooftop retreat.
